Steven B. Boyett. Treks Not Taken (1998) Scenarios for Star Trek episodes in the styles of the classics a taught in the latter half of the 20th century. A few titles will suggest the flavour of the parodies: The Crusher in the Rye, The Ship Also Rises, Trek-22, Moby Trek (abridged). Thirty years later, some of these are no longer as well known as they were when Boyett pitched his idea. College programs have all but eliminated the mandatory humanities survey courses. Popular taste in literature no longer includes most of the novels parodied here.
But it was something of a nostalgia trip to the time when these books for me were new and sometimes startling discoveries. Quite well done; a potato chip book. You keep hoping that the next chip will be better than the one you just ate. **
